Heartland Lutheran High School in Grand Island, NE set a new Guinness World Record for the longest basketball game played. The record breaking time was 77 hours, 7 minutes and 7 seconds. The record was set on July 7, 2008 with play ending at 7:07 P.M. This was a fundraising effort as well; the goal was to save the school with the help of 24 players (past, present, and future students).

Hello there,
My name is Josh Boyes, and I have been newly elected to the post of president of the Basketball Club at Deakin University in Melbourne.
The idea of breaking the record of the Romanians, (or Hungarians) of 80 hours has been tossed up to increase popularity of our club, and much more notably, raise money for a worthy local charity here in Australia.
We plan to attempt for this record in our winter months (Thinking July/August) and before we start preparing for this, we would love any advice that you could give us in preparing for this attempt.
77hours 7 minutes, and 7 seconds is a mighty effort, and your story is truly inspiring, so any advice anybody could give us would be greatly appreciated.
I will attempt to find others and forward this same message to them, but if anyone would like to reply to this, could they please direct their e-mail to:
jboy@deakin.edu.au
Many Regards
Josh Boyes
