BCS – Why?
Hint for diabetic glucose control: spend ten hours with two grandchildren ages 6 and 4.
Recently the pope named 22 new Cardinals. Once more I was passed over. I would even eschew my Milwaukee Brewers cap, if I had one, for a Cardinals cap. Red is one of my favorite colors. After all I am a devoted and die hard Wisconsin Badger fan, unless the team is sinking fast, like the basketball team presently.
Bunkum: 1. A clue to a three letter word in the New York Times Magazine. 2. A road connecting Caseyville, Ill and Fairview Heights. There are at least 8 churches along the road rising out of the Mississippi valley to the heights. 3. A variation of buncombe. Meaning insincere talk, humbug, nonsense. Derives from a practice of a one term congressman from Buncombe County, North Carolina (1819-1821) who kept making pointless speeches “for Buncombe” 4. A description one might apply to today’s blog.
When I was nearing retirement hoped I could get a call to a smaller congregation. But of course no one wants to call a 60 year old over the hill pastor. As part of the restructuring of synod those who are serving as vacancy pastors of a congregation who is not in the process of calling a pastor must call their vacancy pastor. Tomorrow, unless something goes awry, Immanuel Chapel will issue me a call as their part time vacancy pastor. So now that I am 70 years old I will receive a call, even though I wasn’t looking for one.
See you in church.
